2009

2008 really has been a crazy year for ALL bloggers. People outside of our little world are starting to realize our impact on fashion. That said, 2009 will be even better.

Thanks for everything. Have a great, safe New Year's Eve.

The Eyes That Bling on the New Years

Granted this will be my last post until the new year and I have to finish with a bang! In this quick demonstration, I put up tips on how to achieve smokey eyes for that your New Years party tomorrow. I know it's a little late, but if you read this tonight, then you'll at least have tomorrow to practice!

Having a good brush set helps a lot. Luckily for me, the lovely staff from Coutouture sent me (and other bloggers as well) a kit from Sephora and it helps so much in comparison to my brushes from Target.

It comes with every brush needed to achieve a simple smokey look, mascara, and a little chart. You can get it at Sephora at a pretty affordable price, considering MAC makeup brushes can run for $40 each. I imagine having the brush set along with Pop's smokey eye set will do wonders to your eyes, but for right now, I prefer my Smashbox eyeshadow.

First thing's first, prep your eyes to prevent creasing, smudging, and melting. I did put a little concealer and blended it all around my eyelids and under my eyes, also, I took a cream eye shadow and put it where I wanted my eyeshadow. I use this old product that Revlon had ages ago, but you can use any type of greasy, creamy eye shadow as a base.

Using the big shader brush, I cover it in a pinkish color from Smashbox's eyelights collection, 'Beam'. Then, I pat the color over the base, ensuring that it sticks to the creamy eye shadow. This way, the color has something to hold onto and your base is set.

With the dome brush, (I took the eye shadow picture with the wrong brush, and was too lazy to take another picture with the right one) I light tap it into my darkest color from the Smashbox trio sex, 'On Stage', and push it into my crease and slowly work the color in. You can vary how heavy or dark you want your eyes to be. Usually after this step, I like to take a q-tip and smudge over the dark and blend it into the first color used.

Using the middle brush, the shader, I tap it into the first color I used and a color slightly darker than that to blend in the darkest color and the first color, giving my eyes a small gradient. Hopefully, that makes a little sense. It's all a matter of playing with your colors until you achieve what you like. This is about the amount of 'smokiness' my face can handle before I look like a 12 year old hooker.

I know the last brush is a liner, but I ran out of Sephora brushes to use for the lightest color: white. Putting white in the corner of your eye and underneath your eyebrow helps contour your eyes making them pop and finishing your color palette.

Next, I run eye liner at the top of my eyelashes, making sure I get in between each lash and run it along the bottom. Don't wear a lot on the bottom, because as your night continues, the eyeliner from your top lash will rub up against your bottom lash. After two hours of applying your makeup, your eyes look perfectly smokey.

I usually put on 2-3 coats of mascara, but in this picture I only put on one. I say, load it up! I love thick, mascara lashes. Though, I'll be wearing falsies for my New Years Party.

Keep the rest of your makeup simple. For my blush, I put on a pale pink of 'Deep Throat' by NARS. Smile and wave.

And for my lips, Viva Glam II along with the finished look. Don't be fooled by the picture which does no justice to how smokey my eyes looked in person.

I hoped that helped! Have a FABULOUS New Years, stay safe, PLEASE don't drink and drive and wear a fat, gaudy cocktail ring.

See you next year!

Spending New Years Eve with a few dear friends at the ranch.
Confetti has been purchased, so in my mind the night is already a success.
Happy almost 2011!

Taken in San Francisco after buying a bright red "R" for my room, eating brunch at the ever-so-amazing Red Door Cafe, bonding with our flamboyant waiter, walking up and down Filmore street, having hands so numb that I finally gave into fingerless gloves at Marc Jacobs, refreshing myself with lavender lemonade at The Grove, pondering why stores close on such odd days and hours, making a quick stop to Haight + Ashbury, finding the perfect dress that you felt you've been searching for your whole life, nearly passing out in the taxi twice. A rushed day well worth it.

The Last Post Before the Year Ends

I've been in Texas for a few days, and I'm finally in a WiFi zone! I'll be back the 31st in time for New Years. I can't wait to celebrate in my newest bright orange dress and Chloé shoes that James bought me for Christmas – pictures when they come. Hannah Montana is throwing my old highschool a party, and I wanted to tagalong.

I'll leave you with this picture before I left for Texas and I will talk to you lovies in the New Year!

James introduced me to this amazing abandoned railroad track with graffiti in every direction; new picture spot.

Button downs have been a reoccurring staple in my everyday wear as I default to one everytime I'm feeling lazy - which has been a lot lately considering the extra amount of downtime. Becoming more and more obsessed with dainty objects, relatively in the jewelry-family; Ted was pretty spot on giving me a shiny, pearly necklace for my birthday.

I'm sure you're tired of useless Californian weather talk, but we're spoiled and we brag: weather has been amazing this winter. Consistently worn the same amount of layers year 'round, give or take, so I'm trying to prosper in the layering department, eventually I'll need to temporarily move to a place that actually has seasons.

Other than that, I've been scavenging Rodarte x Target dresses in my size, crocheting poorly made scarves for my mom (because she is the only one who would wear them), looking for ways to make my bedroom look different without laborious work, playing with my new XSI, admiring the weather, tackling the homemaker urge to wreak havoc in the kitchen, and finally answering your emails.

If you don't hear from me by the new year, thank you for everything.

The Post With No Title

I hope everyone had a stupendous holiday! However, the partying is not over yet, in fact, it just started! Sorry I've been a little casual; it's just that work and friends have me by the neck so online time is scarce. And in the spare time I do get, I'm working out! You know, you gotta lose the holiday pounds before you step out in your scandalous dress for New Years. This workout to be exact:

I usually get people what I want for Christmas, and this year I got my brother Guitar Hero 3 for his Wii. I played that thing literally alll Christmas day while sipping on eggnog. Loves it. Edit: Before I pass out from my night out, I took a few quick pictures of my Christmas presents.

- Marc Jacobs Daisy perfume set
- American Fashion
- A Million Little Pieces by James Frey
- A sweater from Hollister *
- A cute tunic from INC
- Black leather purse from Barney's NY
- Starbucks giftcards
- Vintage Christian Dior sunglasses
- A lot of money
- Sheep wool seat covers for my car **
- Juicy Couture socks
- Vintage Christian Dior sweater

* Around five ago, I have this absolute infatuation with all things Abercrombie and Hollister, my relatives haven't caught on yet that I'm not really into those brands anymore. But for the sake of wearing the sweater, I covered the logo with a cute vintage brooch -- it looks so much better now. Hah.
** As some may know, I work at Starbucks. Lately, my parents have been nagging me to get seat covers because I always manage to get coffee or chocolate stains on my seats. Hence, the ultra comfortable seats.

What was your favorite present for Christmas? And what was your favorite present that you bought someone else? I have to say my favorite present is American Fashion because my 13 year old brother bought it for me and he complained that he 'never fathomed a book could cost that much'. It was cute.

Because today is my day off, I'm gonna take the time to slowly pamper myself -- and maybe go shopping with my family. Now, where's my hot pink nailpolish?
