Fall Wish List

September Wish List

Untitled-1
dress from net-a-porter, apc jumper, modcloth top, second row all topshop, rachel comey boots, cole haan boots

Can you believe that tomorrow September begins? The air is filled with talk of back-to-school and preseason football and upcoming holidays. I say bring it on! The last few days have gone back to feeling appropriately summer-like much to my dismay. So instead of venturing out, I did a little fall fantasy shopping. This is what I came up with. :)

Hudson

a

Ever since looking at the Olive & Orange fall collection I've been thinking about the perfect pair of oxfords. I have a vintage pair that I like but it would be nice to some day invest in a well crafted pair that will last forever. When that day comes I think it will be a pair of Hudsons that grace my feet. They have a really nice selection of classic shoes with just the right amount of details. I don't like fancy shoes with lots of embellishments so these are right up my alley. I really like the "washed" collection where the leather has been treated to give it a vintage feel. Right now they don't deliver anywhere outside the U.K. but for us Stateside gals, UO carries a few of the styles.

Lotta from Stockholm

lotta

At first glance, you might think these are Swedish Hasbeens. You'd be wrong! They fooled me too. They are still Swedish clogs, but are offered from Lotta from Stockholm. I can never seem to find the open toed sandals in my size from Swedish Hasbeens but Lotta seems to have all sizes in stock. Plus, the price is quite a bit friendlier. I'm putting these on my summer wish list.

Travel Bags

backpacks

When packing for this latest trip, my first concern was making sure I absolutely did not have to check a bag at the airport. Whatever I was carrying was going into a bag I could carry on the plane with me. That meant packing light. Luckily, the hot weather makes that a bit easier!

All I ended up carrying was a pair of denim cutoffs, a couple of tank tops and three lightweight dresses. Throw in a pair of flats and my Chucks and I was done. I have a perfectly sensible backpack that held everything nicely but wouldn't it be fun to carry one of these?

Moop

b

These days I rarely leave the house without a tote over my shoulder. I'm amazed that I ever functioned without one as I find myself constantly putting it to use. I really like these simple, utilitarian waxed canvas totes from Moop. They come in all sort of handy shapes and sizes and are handmade right here in Pennsylvania.

July Wishlist

Untitled-1_edited-1

Most of the things on my wishlist so far this month have been boring things like a new laptop. Well, I guess getting a new laptop isn't that boring, but you know what I mean. Fashion-wise I don't have my eye on too much. I guess it's because it's so hot out right now there's not much to be worn except little sundresses and sandals. Finding silk pieces is still high on my list and I really like these two dresses. The first is the exclusive Alison Lewis for Target dress. I love that the print was inspired by The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. The other dress is a Built by Wendy one that I've had my eye on for a while and now I'm super tempted by because it's finally on sale.

Other than that, I'm on the lookout for the perfect fatigue style jacket to throw on over girly dresses to toughen things up a bit. I like this Topshop one but would like to find an already broken in vintage one if it's possible. And I think I fell in love with these Jeffrey Campbell shoes a bit too late as it seems they've all but sold out in smaller sizes. If anybody spies a pair in a size 6 or 7 give me a holler!

Summer Outfits

Untitled-1

Madewell blouse, Topshop shorts, Steven Alan hat, Le Botte Gardiane sandals, necklace

Somehow summer managed to sneak up on me without my realizing it. Luckily we haven't had too many of those hot sweltering summer days that make you want to sit in the air conditioning, never venturing outside. Last night we took our nieces out for miniature golf and an ice cream dinner. I was wearing something very similar to the outfit above although I would have been perfect happy wearing the ones below as well.

Fleabags

a

I'd love to get my hands on one of these classy Fleabags (doesn't that sound like an oxymoron?). They're described by their creators as "dapper, large, lightweight and sturdy carry-alls - that are also eco-minded." I think they're the perfect combination of half purse-half tote.

Boot Craving

Untitled-1
all the pretty birds, nasty gal

Sometimes I get a fashion craving that comes on quickly and unexpectedly. This week I suddenly realized that my wardrobe is missing a pair of perfectly beat-up brown ankle boots. I wanted to slip on a pair of boots with a floral dress and all my black ones made the outfit a little to grunge for my liking. A pair of brown boots seems to be the answer to all of my current wardrobe woes. I was hoping to find a pair at the thrift store but had no luck. Instead I found the perfect pair of little boy's plaid shorts that I want to wear rolled up with a simple white tank top and... brown boots!

I pretty much want to steal those boots right off of the Nasty Gal model's feet. They are the picture of what I have in mind. I get pretty picky when it comes to these cravings. The heels need to be not too fat and not too skinny. The toes need to be pointy but not too pointy. The color should be brown but not dark brown. Laces are good, as would be a little buckle at the ankle or some fringe on the toe. So far I've had no luck finding the perfect pair. Any size 7 suggestions?

White Skirts

I saw these photos and instantly added a long white skirt to my list of things to add to my wardrobe. This one is lovely, though out of my price range. I'll have to keep my eye out at the thrift store.

A Touch of Modern

necklace
necklaces: Nobletown Vintage, Of Matter, Garnett Jewelry via Need Supply, Coatt

The days around here have finally turned summer hot and I'm not one to complain. After a very long winter I'm welcoming the sun and the heat. That means I've been wearing lots of vintage sundresses. Since I never want to cross over into costume territory with my vintage clothes I've been craving lots of modern shoes and jewelry to pair them with. This is relatively new ground for me. I don't really buy a lot of new shoes and buying jewelry is pretty much unheard of.

I could seriously fill my closet with every pair of shoes from Totokaelo. Maybe the shoe fairy with bring a few pair my way. As far as the jewelry goes, I can't really explain my new found interest in necklaces but I tend to like them brass and geometric in nature. I really like the contrast they provide to the feminine vintage dresses that I live in all summer.

June Wish List

a

I sat down to write out a wishlist for June and to be honest, came up with a pretty short list. Truth be told, there's really not too much out there that I'm pining after right now. My closet is stocked full of summery sundresses and I already found the perfect vintage sandals to pair with them. What else can a gal ask for?

I don't really need any more dresses but I suppose if one of the above suddenly fell into my lap, I wouldn't say no. The one on the left is from Anthropologie and the one on the right is by Ivana Helsinki from The Moon and Mars.

I think the biggest (and most unrealistic) thing on my wishlist right now is for my hair to hurry up and grow out already! I love this girl's hair! I think my hair will be a similar color once it all grows out. I've been dying it for so long I'm not really sure what my natural color will look like! I remember reading an interview with Cate Blanchet and someone asked her what her natural hair color is. She answered that she thinks she's vaguely blond but not really sure anymore. That's about how I feel.

I have to say I'm still not convinced 100% on the whole clogs thing. I know for sure I'll never wear those backless mule type clogs. You can mark my word on that! Ugh. But, these t-strap Hasbeens are beginning to grow on me a bit. I blame this photo of Kelley Hoffman. I'm not sure I'd wear them with summer dresses but I'd like to stash them away until fall when I can wear them with tights.

My beloved Canon SD1000 took its final swan dive yesterday. I was taking photos from the shop, got my feet tangled up in the tripod and over it went. Now the screen just glows a weird shade of grey and you can't adjust any of the settings. It served me well and makes me a bit sad to lose it! I've already ordered its replacement in the form of the Canon SD1300. The one thing I haven't found is a wireless camera remote that will work with the Canon SD series cameras. Anyone have one that they use a remote with?

Need Supply Co.

a

I'm sure I've run across Need Supply Co. before in my internet searches but I always sort of blew it off as another pricey boutique shop that I shouldn't linger over and torture myself with lovely things I can't afford. When I ran across their carefree spring lookbook photos I knew if was time to finally check out the shop. I was so pleasantly surprised to see some really cute affordable pieces right along side the Band of Outsiders and A.P.C. pieces. I especially love this lace crop top (if you'd told me I'd type that sentence a year ago, I'd have said you were crazy) and this classic striped dress.

Francis May

a

My guiltiest pleasure of the moment; fantasy shopping at Francis May. I think if I lived in Portland I'd be stalking the racks of this store on a regular basis. I can't remember ever seeing a shop that is so perfectly curated. I want everything. Seriously. EVERYTHING. The fact that the shop is the result of a grandmother/granddaughter collaboration just makes it even sweeter.

Post Holiday Wish List

sale

APC dress, Orla Kiely dress, APC toggle coat, APC boots, Rachel Comey boots, Topshop heels

Did everyone have a lovely holiday weekend? Ours was quite nice. This was the first Christmas that Tom and I spent in Pennsylvania. We usually drive down to Alabama for a visit this time of year. I had my fingers crossed for a white Christmas but the snow arrived a day too late. The funny thing is, my family had a white Christmas in Alabama! Just my luck.

The best thing about the holidays being over (besides all the leftover food!) are the end of season sales when all the pretty things I've been eying are finally marked down. That's what gift cards are for, right?!

I want to wear this...

11 Spring (4)
...to the farmer's market to buy fresh flowers & vegetables. (Monki top, Topshop skirt, Libris Lunaris tote, sandals)

11 Spring (10)
...on a Sunday stroll around my neighborhood. (Rachel Comey dress, See by Chloe purse, Topshop hat & oxfords)

11 Spring (3)
...to eat crepes at brunch with my girlfriends. (Topshop skirt & sunglasses, Secret Squirrel top, Madewell sandals)

11 Spring (2)
...to walk on the boardwalk in a seaside town. (Secret Squirrel skirt, Topshop blouse, Swedish Hasbeens clogs, Topshop tote)

11 Spring (11)
...exploring a new part of the city. (Modcloth dress, Topshop loafers, Steven Alan hat, vintage backpack)

Vintage Loves

a

I'm sure it's not news to most of you (it was to me) that Free People has gotten in on the vintage game. They're offering a "rare collection of vintage pieces that captures the spirit of the 1900s through the 1980s, a travel journal bringing the past to life. " I have to admit that I'm smitten with the collection... the well worn corduroys, the perfectly broken in leather bags and belts and the clothing in earthy muted hues. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the prices. Yowza! While all the pieces are lovely, I feel like I could find comparable pieces on Etsy for a fraction of the price.

I would really like to get my hands on one of these woven market bags. I've seen them around but I don't know where to find one. Does anyone have any clue?

Dahlia

Untitled-1

When I saw a few Dahlia dresses on ASOS and loved every one of them, I knew I needed to investigate further. Sure enough, when I found the Dahlia Fashion website I was pretty much smitten with everything they're selling. They just seem like the perfect simple summer dresses that I'd wear over and over.
