The Editorial Advent Calender

Merry Christmas! Since I can't make all my readers a lovely gift bag, I made this advent calender filled with pictures of some of my favorite editorials, photographers, models, and my sweat! In the post below, I listed more information about each image with some commentary here and there. All I can say is, enjoy the post(s)!

How it works: Hover over each number, if you have a slow computer / internet, wait for the picture to load. Each number holds a different picture, much like an advent calender!

P.S. These are in no particular order at all.

The Front Row

If you're anyone who's anyone, you know that MK and Ashley Olsen came out with their clothing line, The Row about a year and a half ago. Here's just a quick little inspiration to start off your Monday with this video of their outfit compilation.

If you have already seen this, sorry. This is for the readers who haven't seen it, and those who never get tired of watching it -- like me!

The Homage To MMM

She wears Margiela so well. Ted and I decided we're going to make a personal blog. Of course, I'll still be on here. We'll see when we get that up. Any ideas for a blog names? We were thinking "Suicide Siblings" but thought it might be too controversial.

The Spring 2009 Collections

Hussein's collection is quite an innovation towards modern art. His pieces are highly conceptual, and you can tell, he pushes the boundaries and buttons to get to where he is now - in a way refining a standard of avant-garde. Though avant-garde, some of his pieces are extremely wearable and in essence, is extremely fresh with a great undertone of sensuality.

Ah Ricardo Tisci has definitely gotten a little wild west on us: chaps, cowboy boots, and a touch of cowboy bondage. I was no fan of that at all (hence why I didn't waste space to include it), albeit, I admire his experimental focus. Tisci says himself that he enjoys designing a collection in which a girl can be a little more naughty - show more skin - after all, it's summer. And the fourth ensemble is direct proof of his theory. I would die for that top. Yet the collection to me is an evolution of his gothic ways, such as more neutral colors - definite plus. The collection remains rigorous and true to the label as he really understand the woman body, keeps a personal vision, but isn't too trendy. I'll always love my Tisci.

As some of you may know, this could be Martin Margiela's last collection, so as a point to celebrate his anniversary, he took obvious elements from previous collections and launched this collection into a fierce retrospect. Par usual, his presentation was fantastic, though the collection itself wasn't a great hit for me - more of a weak effort than usual. Really, I would expect more from a closing show. I loved the ending dresses and the last two looks on the top row. I really can't imagine anyone else taking over MMM's label. Maybe one day soon, he'll show his face.

It took a while for this collection to grow on me, but after taking detailed mental notes of the fresh silhouettes, I was convinced. Of course the black and white vertebra print that played throughout the fabric was a definitely eye pleaser. The far right fringe dress is somewhat congruent to Jil Sander, no? Nothing bad about that, really. I absolutely loved the hourglass hips played down with a slim legs, and also loved the pieces that resembled a tattoo, like the shoes. And in all seriousness, McQueen came out of the show in a bunny suit. What a man's man.

This to me, lacked the charming element I would expect to see from his ss07 collection. More over, I actually expected something more relevant and perhaps hard-edged for Lanvin. All in all, it is still a good collection, great even. The silhouettes were stellar, details were impeccable, colors flowed, and frankly the neutral looks blew my mind away! Look at the folding of that skirt! For me, it's all in the matter of execution, and I don't know if Alber was 110% focused, but his collection was extremely relevant to the signature of the label. It's really all that matters; I always look forward to his collections.

Hands down, this is my favorite collection of Paris fashion week. Ann charmed me with her overt gothic/grunge reference, but it got old quick. In fact, I never paid much attention to her collection to the point that I would highly anticipated her show enough for a reminder in my daily planner. Last season, she sparked my attention - enough for me to run about her archives and reminisce in her historical prosperity. More so, this visually arresting collection is an unexpected pleasantry of brights and pristine, fluid styling. She took a risk, and it worked. Guess who will be penciled in for next season Fashion Week reminders?

Like the McQueen collection, I had to take a few extra looks sporadically throughout my day in order to properly appreciate and digest this collection - eventually, like most collections, it grew on my quite strong. I love Ghesquiere's play with lighting - seeing how the metallic material would reflect and absorb for a miraculous presentation. In fact, the ceiling flashed different colors on the model as she strutted down the runway. It makes me wonder how this will look without the special effects and into a store. Just like the shoes, it has Star Trek written all over it and, to me, looks like the shoes are concealed in the tights (which is actually a body suit). Again I wonder how their shoes will pan out in store as I usually look to Balenciaga for "shoe porn". Still, a stunning display on the runway, I just don't know how it will work in commercial.

I absolutely adore the honeycomb detail and the exaggerated Marie Antoinette styling. There's also a great mixture of textures that help succumb the collection into her constructions and aesthetics. This being wearable is truly in the eye of the wearer, but that aside, I find her work inspiring with so much structure and extremely expressive of who she is as a designer.

Disappointments: Dior. Chloé. Haider Ackermann. Giambattisa.
Honorable mentions: Chanel. Junya Wantanabe (really liked it - was too lazy to blog about it). Stella McCartney. Valentino. Mui Mui.

What were your favorites? Disappointments? Mediocre?

The Girls in Nice Clothes

I can't believe I forgot to mention in my last post.. and the post before that. If you hadn't noticed already, I changed my blog header and site font. What do you think? Should I keep it? Or do you like That's Chic au natural?

This might start to seem cliché since it seems to be the hit of the blogs, but it's fashion week, girls! Well, it's over in New York, but we still have Paris and London to look forward to. And there is just a ton of new, fun trends I see coming up. Such as gradient colors, to sheers, to ruffles. It's ALL happening. But, to kick off my fashion lust, here's what I believe to be, my runway highlights.

3.1 Philip Lim

Look at how incredibly fashion forward and chic these outfits are! I especially adore those high waisted skirt. I can tell those will be a pretty big hit soon. I mean, Mary-Kate was seen sporting a black, leather high-waisted skirt at Conan O'Brien's domain. That means it's a legitimate cause -- a new trend in the making. We'll keep that in mind. Philip, all I can say is, gorgeous designs. Simple, runway appropriate, and definitely ready-to-wear. Loves it.

Monique Lhuillier

I seriously couldn't stop drooling in awe as I was scrolling through this show. Every dress is impeccable. Each design has it's own attitude and delicacy, it makes me sad that I no longer have prom dress shopping to look forward to. The grey dress in the middle has me speechless. Had I worn that to my senior prom, I don't know, I'm still speechless! Also, that dress to the right. Although it's not exactly wearable, it's a gorgeous design -- a work of art. We see a lot of ruffles in this collection, and the right most dress is simple a divine twist on the little black dress.

Diana von Furstenberg

What can't this woman do? The flow of these dresses are flawless! There's not too much fabric rushing around the model, yet, there's enough to make her look like she's walking on heaven. As always, the prints are just to die for. I am especially loving the 4th dress to the right. I also love the colors of the second dress, again we see the gradients. It almost makes me sad that I can't enjoy these flowy beauties because summer is coming to an end, almost though, key word.

Marc Jacobs

There's a lot of controversy about Marc Jacobs' show. The backward showcase, the apparent mess behind stage, the outrageous clothing, but it's Marc Jacobs! He's an absolute mastermind and he damn sure knows what he's doing. Onto the actual clothing, I do happen to love what he's designed. I love the humble Picasso feel to the clothes. The designs are a bit wacky at times, but I can't keep my eyes off. It's brilliant.

Tory Burch

First off, I love those gladiator sandals, they are the epitome of what I've been looking for in the perfect gladiator sandal. Again we see the high-waisted skirt, and I love it on the model. It perfectly contrasts on her gorgeous dark skin complexion. Those straw bags are to die for. Honestly, I've never been a fan of them, but since I saw a girl carrying one around on campus as her school bag, I fell in love. Like, I have to have one for school, I just have yet to find the perfect one. Tory's is a little too big for me, maybe if there's a smaller one....

Jill Stuart

The color pallet in this collection is gorgeous! Periwinkle, is it? There's some more gradients, ruffles, and sheers working its respect here. Yet another gorgeous collection, but it's nothing I haven't seen. Still, I'd love to get my hands on the right dress. -- without the white coverup though.

Unfortunately, that's all for New York's fashion week, but hopefully I'll have other shows up too. Meanwhile, I'm going to get a thick paper-towel and wipe off the saliva and drool off my Macbook.

The Copycats

I could not believe I was on Who What Wear Daily. Ted texted me that night - yes, Ted.

Ted: Hey, so you're on this website called... who.. what? where? daily??
Me: DID YOU JUST SAY WHOWHATWEARDAILY?
Ted: Yeah, Vivian saw you. Is that good?
Me: Uh, YES.

That's pretty much how I found out. I mean, they asked me a long, long time ago if they can use my picture, but I responded too late, so I figured they moved on. Anyways, thanks everybody for the sweet words and support!

As for my garage sale, being that it's the first garage sale ever (exaggerating) in the bubble of suburbia, it was a complete bust. We had our fun, don't get me wrong, but we only made like $7. To think someone would turn down designer jeans, oh well, re-consignment store they go.

I don't know about you, but I'm extremely excited for Fall. After seeing clothing on the runway, I love seeing how different stylists change once piece to fit different scenarios and moods. Here are a few fall necessities that seem to prove its absolute versatility for the upcoming season.

This upcoming season, I believe that every girl must own a great black jacket that pairs nicely with everything in her closet. Take this Chanel coat that looks like it can be worn as a dress or over a skirt; I bet this would look great under some raggedy light washed jeans.

As if buying a neat hat to keep your head warm for winter isn't awesome enough, buying a feathered, pirates-esque hat is even better! Especially how changing the angles a little will change the entire look!

Black and white looks to be the dominate colors this season - again (seriously, how can you go wrong with it?!). Not only are we taking high slits to it highest potential by including it in all our outfits, it's a nice twist on the black skirt. Albeit only a dress, this still inspires other great Fall looks to come.

There's something captivating about the volume and proportion control of a big fur contraption to contrast against pencil legs. Now if only I can muster up the devotion to fashion to wear fur - nah.

Black is still the new black. Quite frankly, you can never go wrong with it. These pictures don't show much variation in the stylistic department, but I love the different moods this pictures up. I particularly like the first picture with the Rick Owens boots, ugh, to die for.

After seeing these in editorials, I seriously need to invest in a ruffled blouse. It's hard to pick out the perfect one that suits your body without looking cheesy. I love Coco in this, although, you can't see it much. I forgot which magazine these are individually from, but I also like it in the third and fourth picture.

I prefer this LBD to Balenciaga's. It must be the way the silk that keeps this Grecian cut so enticing. Still, not much variation in the styling itself, but the portraits are each in its own.

As if I didn't have enough pictures to use, the laced Prada pieces are all over editorials. And since lace is like the new leather, it'll be nice to pick up a magazine and take note of the mood these photographer and stylists are trying to capture within the photograph. Trust me, there are a ton more where this came from.

Yet another black and white dress that is used quote often in these editorials. The Yves Saint Laurent dress has this great architectural contour that will be quite popular soon.

I just can't wait to blog about the Fall season staples! It will be good! What are some things that you think are absolute must haves for Fall?

P.S. This weekend, Ted and I will meet up to do another vlog. Go ahead and ask some questions using the contact form to the right!

P.S.S. Thanks to MissMagAddict on The Fashion Spot to finding all these images and grouping it together!
